Recently I met an elderly gentleman at the airport and after sharing that I was working on my PhD in Organizational Leadership we started a conversation about leadership. He said something I will never forget. “It used to be that we called those that we elect in the government public servants now we call them public officials.” Reflecting on his statement I feel one of the problems in today’s leadership for the government as well as all sectors of society is a lack of service minded leaders. All too often it is about the personal agendas of the leader and what will better them versus the best decisions for those they are entrusted to lead. At the heart of real leadership is service.
